If your going to Amsterdam and want a hotel recommendation, mine goes to the nH Barbizon Palace, its not the cheapest but my stay has always been pleasant, the rooms were nice and the staff was never an issue either. the Krasnapolsky on the other hand, has only recently been purchased by nH but every time iv been in there, there were problems.
